Work processes : Functioning modes

In this article, you will learn about the three modes of functioning measured across 12 processes.

OpenDecide allows each team member to express their perception of how the team functions in its processes today, as well as their desired way of functioning.

OpenDecide currently analyzes 12 work processes using 3 different functioning modes (Direct, Participative and Collaborative).

THE 3 FUNCTIONING MODES:

To achieve this, OpenDecide compiles the various studies on the evolution of organizational methods. This evolution is the product of changes in employee expectations and the transition in the nature of the tasks to be carried out by our organizations.

In order to offer our users an experience that is both effective and enjoyable, we have decided to reduce the number of functioning modes to 3.
Experience shows that this approach covers more than 99% of the team functioning modes currently in use.

❗️❗️VERY IMPORTANT: Before describing them, it's important to remember that no operating mode is better than another, and that no team has 100% of its processes in autonomous, directive or participative mode. Each team has its own mix adapted to its context and maturity. The significant factor in performance is not the operating mode, but the level of alignment between the team's current operating mode and the ideal one (given the context).

Directive

This is an functioning mode based on the centralization of activities and absolute confidence in a single person, often the manager. The directive mode favors speed by very rarely integrating the opinions and feedback of the team.

Participative

This is a functioning mode based on centralization around a single person (the manager, for example). However, this authority consults and incorporates the opinions of the team into their thinking and decisions. The leader assumes final responsibility.

Collaborative

Is a functioning mode in which the team becomes responsible for its own functioning. The manager plays the role of "wise person" and/or "advisor" to the team. They becomes the guardian of the work processes that the team has co-constructed. Team members work together on a daily basis and call on the manager when/if they need advice.

THE 12 WORK PROCESSES:

There are 12 work processes measured by OpenDecide team analysis, presumed to be present in all work teams, whatever the size of the team or the sector of activity.

These 12 work processes are carried out on a daily basis. Your team analysis is measuring the functioning mode that you employ within these processes now and how we want to do them in the future (current and desired). This is how we measure a team's level of alignment or misalignment with its work processes.

A misalignment is represented by an exclamation mark in front of the work process on the platform and on the presentation support:.

Alignment is simply represented by the same functioning mode in the "current" column as well as the "desired" column:

We're now going to breakdown the 12 work processes so that you can better understand them, particularly in the event of a misalignment between current and desired processes.
